How the math works
Each item goes to the people who had it, divided evenly between them if it was shared. Tax and tip are then spread in proportion to each person's subtotal, which is the fair way: a third of the food means a third of the tax and a third of the tip. Totals are computed in whole cents with the leftover cent handed to the first person on the list rather than rounded away, so the group's numbers always add up to the bill.
