Split a cost unevenly and have it add up
Give each person a number of shares, or a fixed amount for some and an even split for the rest. The total always reconciles.
Uneven split by share
Filled in with an example. Replace it with your own numbers.
| Name | Shares | Fixed amount | |
|---|---|---|---|
Alex$225.00
Sam$112.50
Jordan$112.50
Riley$50.00
Total$500.00
People with a fixed amount pay exactly that; everyone else splits the rest by shares.
Questions
Shares versus percentages?
They are the same thing. Two shares against one share is the same as 66.7% against 33.3%; shares are easier to type.
Can one person pay a fixed amount?
Yes. Set a fixed amount for that person; the remainder is divided among everyone else by their shares.
