Correspondence chess, in the chat

Every rule that matters at home-game level, and no clock. The card in the chat shows whose move it is.

How Chess plays

  1. Standard setup; the first joiner plays white.
  2. Full move legality: castling with rights tracking, en passant, pawn promotion to a queen, and you can never leave your own king in check.
  3. Checkmate wins, stalemate and king-versus-king are draws.

How it ends. Checkmate. Games that never resolve are drawn at 200 plies.

Honest adaptation. Under-promotion is not offered and there are no threefold-repetition or fifty-move draws; those endings run to the ply cap.

Questions about Chess

Is there a chess clock?

No. It is correspondence chess: you move when you open the chat, your friend sees it land, and the game can take an evening or a month.

Do we need to be online at the same time?

No. Every SparkChat game is turn-based and asynchronous. The board sits in the group chat; you make your move when you open the chat, and everyone else sees it land there.

Where does the game live?

Inside the group chat as a live card. Tap it to open the board, play, and close it. The card updates for everyone the moment a move lands, and the finished game stays in the chat as a keepsake.
